Nicola Hall makes a pot for pens…

Dress up your desk by making this pretty nifty thrifty pen holder.
It’s a great way to use a small lovely piece of old fabric to match your home or office by simply using an old baked bean can as the base!
You will need:
1 washed empty can (save the label
as this is the template)
Backing material (I used an old sheet that had seen better days and relegated to the rags bag!)
A pretty piece of material – this only needs to be the size of the label.
Edging for example ribbon

3 buttons (you can get lots of lovely old buttons from charity shops for next to nothing!)
Needle or sewing machine, matching thread, pins, scissors
Here’s what you do:
1. Start by cutting out the base of your wrap – using the label as a template, pin the label onto the backing material and cut out.
2. Pin the backing material onto the pretty material and cut out (the backing material should be slightly smaller than the pretty material)
3. Pin together, ensuring that your pretty material is facing the right side up.
4. Sew together
5. Pin your edging or ribbon on the top and bottom and sew onto the pretty side
6. Check where you want your buttons to be and sew onto the edge of your pretty material
7. Make holes for the buttons to go through
8. Button up
9. Slide over the can
10. Add pretty pens etc and enjoy your nifty thrifty craft project
